Breeding on the Racing Register

When breeding your horses there are many factors to consider.

- Age

- Breed

- Aims

- Grade

- Racing

- Overbreeding

- Pedigree

Age

When breeding it is always best to breed horses when they are older than nine. A horse below this should be racing and improving its racing record.

But remember horses retire once they turn 25!

Breed

On the racing each horse can only be a purebred, so an arab cannot breed with a thoroughbred.

Aims

There are two main aims when breeding on racing. Either a player is breeding to get higher grade foals, or breeding to create good racing stock. Alot of players tend to aim for the racing side instead of the grade.

Grade

To some of players the grade is very important, however most of the time these horses have a poor racing record. However it is also important when breeding racing stock, not to breed horses with gaps between the grades. Try and keep the grades of the stallion and mare close, so a G2 stallion with a G3 mare. Another thing is to try and keep the stallions grade higher, even though foals tend to follow the mares grade. A G1 stallion and a Starter Allowence mare is not a good match.

Racing

Alot of players on racing prefer to breed for the potential racing career of the foal. Finding good racing stock is crucial. A mare and stallion who were good at racing are more likely going to have good racing foals.

Overbreeding

Alot of players limit their horses to a certain amount of foals. A stallion will have an average of 13 foals, and a mare has an aveage of 8 foals, however this depends on the owner and popularity of the horses. So a very good race stallion will be allowed about 10 breedings, compared to an average stallion which would have about 15 breedings. Overbreeding is very undesirable.

Pedigree

The pedigree for a foal is very important depending on the breeders aims. If a breeder wants good racing stock, then a good racing stallion is needed.

InBreeding

Alot of players will not breed horses if they have the same or similar pedigrees, also if a foal is breeding to one of its parents.

Finding the right stallion/mare

The stallion/mare depends on the breeders aims is very important. Firstly if the stallion/mare is not owned by you, check several things: racing record, breeding fee, grade, pedigree (if it has good racing parents) and if it has any foals. If it has had foals how many and how well are they racing?

Sending requests

Before you send a request to breed to a horse, game message the owner first to check if it is alright. If yes, then send a request. But remember the owner will check which horse you are going to use for the breeding. They will check grade, age, pedigree, racing record and foals.

Breeding your own horses

To breed your own horses go to either the mare or stallion you wish to breed, and go down the page to "breed to my horse", then select a match. Only horses of the same breed will show up and correct breeding age. Remember to do your own checks before breeding.

When will the foal be born?

The foal will be born in 7 days once the breeding has taken place.

Outside breeding requests

Other players might send you breeding requests, so make sure an appropiate breeding fee is set to your horses, this can be done from a horses page. Remember to do your own checks on horses when requests are sent.

When breeding to other peoples horses it is also polite to add the other owners stable brand into the foals registered name. For example your brand could be KWS and the other stables brand was PPS, the foals name could be KWS & PPS Southern Dream. However make sure you ask the other stable first!

Breeding on the English Register

Just as on the Racing register, there are many things to consider, but many players only pay attention to these: Age, Breed, Rank, and Pedigree.

Age A horse on WOSE can be bred when it turns the age of four. Many players consider this to be too young. Even though a WOSE horse can breed or be bred at age four, the horse has not reached its full potential through showing. Many players require that horses be clean lined (no deceased pedigrees, no inbreeding, and no overbreeding), and shown at least four times a week, if not everyday.

A horse who has been groomed, tacked, rider clothed, and is shown everyday will have increased rank, points, and grade; therefore it will be more desireable for prospective players to breed to it. If a horse has been shown everyday from the time it turns 2 to the time it turns 25 (when the horse can no longer show), it has been in 161 daily shows. This does not include stable shows or special shows. The horse should have an average rank of 50. This is a good start for a breedable horse.

Requesting a Breeding

Do not request a breeding with out first asking the player!!! To request a breeding from another player, if you truly desire to have other players breed to your horses, or you desire to breed to other player's horses, you must 1) read the player's breeding rules on their page or in their journal, 2) GM the owner of the horse to which you want to breed, 3) make sure both horses are "compatible" (meaning can be bred - see "Cross Breeding" below). If the owner allows the breeding, the fee will be set to the agreed upon price and you may request to that horse.

Cross Breeding

There are several breeds that may be cross-bred on the English register:

Irish Sport Horse = Irish Draught X Thoroughbred

Warlander = Andalusian X Friesian

Spanish-Norman Horse = Percheron X Andalusian

National Show Horse = Saddlebred X Arabian

Morab = Morgan X Arabian

Quarab = Quarter Horse X Arabian

Araappaloosa = Appaloosa X Arabian

Anglo-Arab = Thoroughbred X Arabian

Appendix = Quarter Horse X Thoroughbred

Any breed that is not listed here cannot be cross-bred to another breed.
