A rank is an indiciation of how much show experience your horse has. Every show you enter awards your horse points. The higher you place in the show the more points you get. These points go towards increasing the horse's rank and grade. At the bottom of your horse's stats page you can see how many points your horse must have before he moves on to the next rank.

Rank pertains to how well the horse does in shows, and increases with the regular daily shows and occasional stable show. The higher rank numbers on a horse increases the horse's value to the owner, though doesn't always reflect in the written value of the horse on the horse's page.

A rank above 3 on a foal aged 0 may indicate either the foal was created with the rank, or the Parents of the foal were shown. Low rank on a bred foal age 0 should be checked by looking at its pedigree. A low rank may have been the result of the foal's parents being bred early in age, or even the rank of the parents being low. This doesn't mean the foal is not “good,” but many players find that foals born from young parents may have many siblings. (The result of being the foal of “overbred” parents. “Overbred” is a relative term which may mean more than 5 foals per horse to some players, or more than 10 foals per horse. The definition of “overbred” depends on the player.)

To figure the rank of a foal, add the rank of the mare to the rank of the stallion and divide by 3. If the Mare's rank is 23, and the Stallion's rank is 13: 23+13=36. The rank of the foal should be 12. But if the Mare's rank is 123 and Stallion's rank is 113: 123+113=236. 236/3=78.6 (rounded to 77). Therefore, the higher the rank of both mare and stallion, the higher the rank of the foal.

Rank to many players is more important than the grade level since the rank is passed on to the foal and grade level is random. Many players consider the rank of the horse to be the deciding factor of how much the breeding fee will be. Often the breeding fees will be a certain amount of money times the horse's rank. i.e. 2K x rank. So if the horse has a rank of 50, $2,000 x 50 = $100,000. The breeding fee will be 100k.
